A small delegation from Northeast Ohio made our way out to Washington D.C. this past weekend. Kurtis Liston and myself had a very nice meeting with Wes Benedict, the Executive Director of the Libertarian Party. I can assure you, the party as a whole is strong, and is getting stronger in the dedicated hands of Mr. Benedict. I think that we are on the same page, strategically, and politically as the party leadership, and that is re-assuring. We asked what we could do to help the party on a national level, and Wes told us, to basically do what we are doing in growing the party at the local level, recruit candidates, and increase our visibility. There is no better time for us to get our name out there, and more importantly, to give people a choice at the voting booth.
This brings us to the second major item on the agenda for the D.C. trip, which was a conference of sorts put on by American Free Press which showcased a speech by James Traficant. I am pleased to say that Jim endorsed Libertarian Kurtis Liston in his speech before a audience of people from all over the country, several times in fact. He also said for those present from the media and elsewhere to watch the upcoming elections in Akron, Ohio as an example of third parties getting involved when they are so desperately needed. While we may not agree with everything printed in the American Free Press, we certainly appreciate the forum and the exposure. The editors discussed running a local candidate profile in an upcoming issue on Liston, so I will keep you posted on that. They stated they have circulation of somewhere around 50,000.

Petitions! If you are planning to run for office as a Libertarian your petitions are due in this Thursday, the 18th! If you need any help, contact us at contact@content.summitlp.org . The more candidates we have in the races, the better. It seems that we have candidates in most of the Ohio House races in the area! We hope to organize an event in the very near future so that everyone can get together, meet the candidates and volunteer to help get the word out to voters.
Voting for the Libertarian Party of Summit County will be held on February 27th.
